Amanda Dicken
Biography
I was born in 1980 in Fairview Park, Ohio, and raised up around the values of artistry. I won my first painting award in
sixth grade, and went on to take AP Art in my senior year of high school, experimenting with different subjects. It wasn't
until my first nude model drawing session while attending Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida that I fell in love with
the human figure. During college drawing classes I assisted peers with simple dry medium techniques (pastel, charcoal,
graphite, and pen) and interned at a local modern art gallery. After studying the techniques of Albrecht Durer and Egon
Schiele, I ventured to Europe with six other people for an art study spanning one month in 2000. But was that enough?
Of course not! The following summer I studied at the New York Art Academy, honing my human anatomy technical
drawing skills. with classical training.
These days are spent in Raleigh, North Carolina, prepping my portfolio for either an MFA or Masters in Art Education. I
divide my time between experimenting with new mixed media pieces, oil paintings, drawings, and creating murals and
specialty artwork for clients around Raleigh and beyond. During the summer months I volunteer at the NC Museum of
Art as a Summer Camp assistant to 6-12 year olds, and am always looking for new ways to teach art.
